Overview
Vernis & Bowling is currently seeking Legal Assistants for its St. Petersburg office. We pride ourselves on internal experience, diligence, and dedication to help the client achieve their goals. This position is fast-paced and is best suited for a driven individual looking to grow and develop a career!
This growing division in St. Petersburg handles a multi-faceted caseload consisting of civil litigation in the areas of insurance defense, such as general liability, bodily injury, slip and fall, first and third-party property, windshield litigation, and construction defect.

- Compile, analyze, and organize information.
- Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorney.
- Organize and track files from case documents and make them available and easily accessible to attorneys.
- Help develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; forwarding summonses and subpoenas; filing discovery requests.
- Keep clients informed by maintaining contact, communicating case progress.
- Maintain case costs by verifying outstanding balances with attorney, clients, and providers.
- Track hours and bill to clients.
- Enhance trial proceedings by organizing evidence; organizing exhibits; scheduling.
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience in a law firm setting
- Insurance defense and/or personal injury experience is a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software; working knowledge of database systems
- Must be detailed oriented and possess excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task, oversee multiple on-going projects and work independently
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interface with personnel at all levels with a professional demeanor
- Effectively work as a team member of the Legal Department
- Proficiency in written & verbal English
