Description

The Budget Assistant supports NOAA's Southeast Regional Office (SERO) by providing financial, budget tracking, and reporting support to the Administrative Officer, Budget Analyst, and budget team. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of financial data used to manage NOAA programs and funding.

The role involves monitoring budget execution, entering and validating financial data, preparing budget reports, and supporting the formulation of budget projections and financial decisions. The Budget Assistant helps ensure that commitments, obligations, and expenditures are properly tracked and aligned with NOAA financial policies and controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative, monitoring, tracking, and reporting support to the Administrative Officer, Budget Analyst, and budget team.
  • Enter and maintain budget and accounting data in NOAA financial systems, including Client and related tools.
  • Perform budget queries and download financial reports to support analysis and decision making.
  • Collect and analyze data from financial applications, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Support the preparation of budget projections, funding plans, and financial presentations.
  • Monitor and track commitments, obligations, and expenditures for FMC programs.
  • Assist with reconciling budget execution data with accounting records and resolving cost variances.
  • Support the preparation of cost adjustment documents and funding realignments.
  • Continuously monitor and report variances between allocations and obligations.
  • Review financial documents for proper accounting classification and authorization.
  • Identify, correct, and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
  • Track and analyze changes in budget policies and reporting requirements.
  • Develop financial reports and tracking tools to monitor expenditures and appropriated funds.
Required Skills / Education / Certifications & Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School Diploma
  • Experience:

    Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in administrative, financial, and budget support.
  • Experience working with spreadsheets, databases, and financial tracking tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work with financial data.
  • Ability to analyze, track, and report budget and expenditure data.
Desired Skills
  • Experience supporting federal government budget or finance operations.
  • Familiarity with NOAA financial systems such as Client or similar budget and accounting tools.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, funding trackers, and variance analyses.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets for financial tracking and reporting.
