Overview
The Senior Accountant’s purpose is to verify, allocate, post, and reconcile the organization’s complex accounting activities within the general ledger for the accurate and timely preparation and presentation of financial, regulatory, and other decision-oriented information to assist leadership at all levels in developing policies, strategic planning, and making informed business decisions. Performs a variety of professional accounting tasks and extensive variance analysis in the completion of month-end general ledger close processes, leadership reports, annual audits, and tax filings.
Responsibilities- Uses professional judgement in the application of accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure financial statements are presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Reviews and analyzes significant accounting transactions to ensure proper GAAP treatment, which may require research of technical accounting literature.
- Prepares and inputs complex journal entries for the monthly and year-end general ledgers close processes to ensure the accurate and timely preparation and presentation of the organization’s financial statements
- Reviews and prepares analytical variance review of income statements during the monthly and year-end general close processes to ensure discrepancies are identified, explained, and/or corrected.
- Reviews, analyzes, and prepares monthly reconciliations of various general ledger accounts and year-end accounting and audit schedules to provide supporting documentation to internal and external auditors.
- Compiles pertinent financial information to assist in the production of leadership reporting packages, including finance committee and board meeting presentations
- Engages with departmental staff and management to identify significant variances in general ledger activity and resolve any existing discrepancies promptly
- Provides mentoring and guidance to staff accountant team members to promote employee engagement, operational efficiency, and professional development
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3 years of experience in healthcare accounting and/or financial statement preparation
- Preferred three or more years of experience in sponsored program activity, compliance, or Uniform Guidance Audit.
- Preferred at least three years of experience with pre-award and post-award functions that include proposal preparation, submission, budget development, account maintenance and oversight, billing/invoicing, reporting, compliance, and closeout.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and its application
- Experience with healthcare and not-for-profit accounting principles and procedures
- Ability to interpret financial policies and procedures
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion
- Ability to effectively and efficiently utilize enterprise resource planning technology
- Advanced knowledge and ability in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Salary Range: $27.85 /hour - $44.57 /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
