Early Talent - 2026 - D23 St Louis West - Store Leadership Trainee
Join Kohl’s as a Store Leadership Trainee (SLT) and receive structured training for roles as Merchandising Manager or Operations Manager (Assistant Store Manager).
Store Leadership Trainee ProgramAs an SLT, you will prepare to run a successful Kohl’s store, learning Human Resources, Operations, Merchandising, Team Development, Omni‑channel Management, and more. New hires train for 8 weeks; internal participants may train for a shorter period. Start dates are in February, May, and July based on business needs.
Career Path- SLT ➜ Assistant Store Manager ➜ Store Manager ➜ District Manager
- Discover Kohl’s store structure and team responsibilities
- Learn all store operations and processes
- Engage in daily hands‑on experiences: in‑store merchandising, visual standards, and product movement
- Work closely with a Coach, Mentor and HR Business Partners to lead, motivate, and drive team engagement
- Participate in weekly touch‑bases with the Store Manager to recap training and align on next steps
- Lead with a customer‑first mindset, demonstrate integrity, accountability, and creative problem‑solving within an inclusive culture
- Develop business acumen to make operationally sound decisions
- Engage in development programming to strengthen leadership exposure
- Analyze sales and market trends to drive profitability while maintaining customer focus
- Support schedule execution, sales projections, and payroll management
- Serve as Leader on Duty in shifts to provide a Customer First experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree required (or expected completion within ~3 months of starting)
- Less than 18 months of retail management leadership experience
- Flexible schedule with availability nights, weekends, holidays
- Highly adaptable and self‑motivated
- Must be 18 years or older
- Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities
- Quick decision‑making and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- People‑management capabilities and talent development skills
