Job Location: Fort Zumwalt School District SS802, Progress South Elementary – St. Peters, Missouri

Position Purpose / Summary

School nurses will be employed to provide basic health care services to district students during the school day, thereby minimizing student absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well‑being in the district schools.

Qualification Requirements

Registered professional nurse licensure.
Certified in CPR (minimum).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain confidentiality about students’ health, illness, or accident.

Maintain cumulative health records, including state immunization status for each student.

Review each student’s immunization status,

a. Send immunization requirement form, if appropriate.
b. Obtain medical/religious/immunization‑in‑process form, if appropriate.

Work with the coordinator of nursing services to secure supplies and equipment for building clinics.

Maintain clinics with supplies, first aid materials, equipment, and necessary resource material.

Notify appropriate building staff of student health conditions.

Conduct student wellness checks as needed during/after times of dysregulation.

Check vision and hearing of students when referred for screening and as noted below,

a. Yearly vision screenings are to be done in grades K, 1, 3, 5.
b. Hearing screenings in grades K, 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8.
c. Vision and hearing will be completed on all new students.

Weigh students in grades K and 6.

Participate in and pass CPR certification annually through renewal or refresher courses.

Perform special care procedures (e.g., catheterization).

Provide first aid and complete accident/injury reports as necessary.

Assist students needing medication and keep an accurate record.

Additional Duties

Serve as a resource person regarding individual student matters and curriculum support for building personnel.

Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or Assistant Superintendent of Special Services.

Communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with administrators, staff, and community as needed.

Mental Demands

Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing; make appropriate decisions; keep impeccable records; solve a variety of problems in many different situations.

Physical Demands

Concentration in a busy environment; frequent lifting over 20 lbs and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 100 lbs; ability to reach, stand, walk, grasp, and use repetitive movements.

Terms of Employment

At-will basis for 9½ months, beginning with the first day of the work calendar or at the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated personal leave. Work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education as needs dictate. Seven and a half hours for elementary and middle schools and eight hours for high school (including a paid 30‑minute lunch period) will constitute a workday.

Salary is disbursed in twenty‑four equal payments. End‑of‑year performance evaluations occur annually per Board policy.
