Buildings and Grounds Technician
Position: Buildings & Grounds Technician
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 12 Months Full-time, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Start Date: December 2, 2025
Pay: $23.82/hour starting pay per the Custodial Labor Agreement
Benefits: Medical, Dental, Life and Paid Time Off in accordance with the Custodial Summary of Benefits
Required Qualifications- Minimum of a specialist boiler’s license; advanced boiler’s license, Freon certification, NSPF certified pool operators license and/or Class A master electrician’s license preferred.
- Valid Minnesota Class C driver’s license.
- Previous journeyman experience preferred.
- Ability to read blue prints & understand construction specifications; possess mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to supervise work crews.
- Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for district facilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and public.
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate a computer.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and District policies.
- Regular attendance and good work record.
- Willing and able to work odd hours as necessary.
Standing and walking 90% of the time. 50% of the time involves: twisting, bending, stooping, squatting and climbing stairs. 25% of the time involves: crouching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, twisting while lifting, sweeping, extended reaches of 20 pounds overhead and lifting 50-100 pounds with mechanical assistance.
Responsibilities- Provide maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, refrigerators, freezers, walk-in coolers and plumbing systems.
- Provide installation, repair and upkeep of electrical systems.
- Perform carpentry repairs necessary to enhance and maintain the appearance of district grounds and exterior facilities.
- Replace motors, bearings and shafts on ventilating systems, uni-vents and exhaust fans.
- Maintain and repair pneumatic temperature control.
- Repair water pipes, valves, bathroom and toilet facilities, kitchen sinks, gas ranges, air compressors, and fittings.
- Maintain, inspect and clean boilers and hot water systems and make needed replacements or repairs to ensure that the heating systems meets or passes state or insurance company inspections including the rebuilding of pumps and motors.
- Maintain the sprinkler systems for all buildings inspect and repair as necessary.
- Repair outlets, circuits, fixtures, phone lines, school bell, security and fire alarm wiring systems.
- Install new wiring systems and bring existing systems up to local and state codes.
- Repair exterior glass, roofs, siding and/or brick.
- Install and tape sheet-rock, re-plasters and paints walls.
- Make recommendations to the Maintenance and Operations Manager regarding the replacement or purchase of new equipment that would perform better and/or could save money.
- Tune and overhaul the maintenance department vehicles.
- Responsible for the timely removal of parking lot snow and ice to keep the district operational; maintain and mark the seasonal athletic fields.
- Facilitate the delivery of supplies and equipment throughout the District.
- Other duties as assigned.
