- Perform maintenance, repair and/or replacement of a variety of refrigeration and HVAC components and equipment to ensure safe and environmentally sound operations of the Capitol Complex building and grounds.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with refrigeration, HVAC, and related systems.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used for refrigeration and HVAC service work.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety regulations.
- Certification that validates successful completion of an accredited HVAC & Refrigeration program.
- Universal certification in the handling, transition of refrigerants and recovery equipment.
- Ability to service all makes of refrigeration and HVAC components (coolers, freezers, icemakers, water chillers, gas/oil‑fired/electric appliances, small water or steam boilers, heating/cooling/ventilation valves and controls).
- Knowledge of applicable codes regarding repair and installation of A/C and refrigeration equipment.
- Valid class “D” driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Registration with the Department of Labor and Industry as an unlicensed electrician within the first six months of employment.
- Ability to obtain certification from the Office of State Procurement to make purchases up to $5,000.
- Power‑limited electrical licensure.
- Four or more years of refrigeration equipment service technician experience in a commercial kitchen or food service establishment.
Successful candidate must pass a pre‑employment physical. The minimum required is medium, including the ability to lift 36‑50 lbs frequently (1‑100 repetitions per hour).
Additional RequirementsMust be able to successfully pass employment reference checks, and a criminal background check through American Databank. A criminal history does not automatically disqualify an applicant and each case will be reviewed individually in alignment with fair hiring practices.
