This position has a highly condensed FTO process and is not meant as an entry into the law enforcement profession, and we are unable to consider applications from candidates who are looking for part-time work in addition to current police employment.
Primary duties of a part-time police officer include supporting the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) screening function at security checkpoints. There is a high level of public interaction in this position. Other duties include responding to customer service requests, calls, and emergency situations. Investigating suspicious circumstances or situations and writing reports. Part-time officers enforce state statutes, federal regulations, and local ordinances.
Work schedules generally equate to 8-12 days worked per month.
Day shift work hours are with 8-hour shifts, 4 days on, 8 days off.
Afternoon shift work hours are with 8-hour shifts, 4 days on, 8 days off.
Uniforms, training, and equipment are provided.
Successful candidates must pass a comprehensive background check, pre-employment physical, drug screen, medical agility test, psychological exam, and be able to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) airport badge.

Additional InformationAs part of the collective bargaining agreement, LELS Local #302 (Police Officers), part-time officers participate in the Post-Employment Health Care Savings Plan (HCSP) in which 10 percent of their gross pay is deducted from each paycheck and deposited into the HCSP. This position is not eligible for medical or dental insurance or vacation hours.
This position is covered by the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) Police & Fire (P&F) retirement. If you are not receiving a PERA pension, you will contribute to the P&F fund. If you are currently receiving a PERA pension or plan to in near future, PERA requires a complete and continuous separation from all public employment for 30 days.
This position is not eligible to contribute to Social Security but does contribute towards Medicare.
Employees in this position must retire no later than their 65th birthday per the collective bargaining agreement.
