Position SummaryThe Risk and Safety Specialist ensures a safe, welcoming, and inclusive shopping environment by supporting theft prevention, incident response, and positive customer engagement. This role monitors the parking lot and security cameras, documents safety and security incidents, and serves as the primary point of contact for law enforcement and emergency services. Success in this position requires well‑developed observational skills, professionalism, composure under pressure, and a high level of integrity.

ScheduleMonday, Thursday, Friday: 1 – 9 pm and Saturday, Sunday: 10 am – 6 pm.
Qualifications- Customer Service: Able to provide excellent, welcoming, and timely service to customers and staff while maintaining safety awareness.
- Safety and Security
Experience:
Experience in safety, security, or loss prevention roles, including monitoring store and parking lot activity for safety and security risks and using surveillance tools, including camera monitoring software, to support a safe environment. - De‑escalation: Demonstrated use of calm, professional techniques to reduce tension and support positive outcomes during challenging situations.
- Communication: Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate, document, and report incidents to leadership or authorities using appropriate formats and systems in a timely manner; ability to create clear, useful written materials such as safety guides, signage recommendations, and training documents.
- Crisis Response: Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to urgent, sensitive, or emergency situations while maintaining composure.
- Judgment: Demonstrated ability to make sound, appropriate decisions during safety incidents, guest interactions, or when risk is identified.
- Collaboration: Able to work effectively with HR, department managers, and store leadership to support safety initiatives.
- Dependability: Demonstrated ability to show up consistently and on time, ready to support a safe, secure, and welcoming store environment.
- Technical
Skills:
Demonstrated basic computer skills including ability to draft and upload documents, email. - Diversity & Inclusion: Able to contribute to a welcoming environment for customers and team members; respects people from a variety of backgrounds and abilities.
- Retail or Grocery
Experience:
Prior work experience in a grocery or retail setting. - Training & Facilitation: Ability to create and deliver training materials on safety, de‑escalation, or emergency procedures.
- Project Coordination: Ability to plan and coordinate safety and loss‑prevention projects, including audits, assessments, and follow‑up actions.
- Safety Data Analysis: Ability to track safety trends, identify patterns, and recommend improvements.
- Multilingual: Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language.

This role involves standing or walking for extended periods, frequent movement throughout the store and parking lot, and occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds. Risk and Safety Specialists will utilize various equipment including but not limited to surveillance tools, phones, computers, and printers. This role requires exchanging accurate information in person, over the phone, and through email and other written communication.
Responsibilities may include outdoor tasks and exposure to outdoor elements and a variety of store environments. The position requires the ability to monitor activity on the sales floor and parking lot and to respond calmly and effectively to incidents. This position requires an individual to be at least 18 years old.
