Overview
We are currently hiring for a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Adult Inpatient Unit. This is a 0.6 FTE, 12-hour shift weekend position, rotating Day (07:00–19:30) and Night (19:00–07:30) schedules. Candidate will be expected to float to Pediatric units. Experience caring for medically complex patients is preferred. Benefit Eligible!
As an RN, you’ll provide high-quality, family-centered nursing care that supports optimal patient outcomes. You’ll conduct thorough assessments, create individualized and evidence-based care plans, implement interventions, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team. You’ll practice autonomously, use sound judgment, and incorporate evidence-based improvements into daily work while supervising and delegating appropriately. Ongoing professional development is encouraged, with opportunities to participate in quality improvement, pursue learning, and contribute to a collaborative, patient-focused environment.
An RN in the Inpatient Adult Unit at Gillette Children’s provides specialized care to teens and adults (ages 18 through 40) with conditions that originated in childhood and require lifelong management. Nurses work with a multidisciplinary team to address the medical and developmental needs of these individuals, manage complex chronic conditions, support patients and families, and ensure continuity of care as patients transition from pediatric to adult-focused healthcare.
This role requires strong clinical expertise, collaboration, and a deep commitment to long-term patient care.
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $41.22–$70.45. Pay is dependent on factors including hours worked, education, and certification/licensure. Weekend, evening, and night differentials apply: $1.75 weekend; $2.35 evening; $4.00 night. CoreResponsibilities and Duties
- Patient Care – Delivers care that optimizes health status and outcomes through the nursing process.
- Thorough assessments and development of individualized, evidence-based plans of care.
- Implementation of interventions and effective prioritization.
- Evaluation of patient care based on best practices.
- Communication of patient-related nursing data to enhance informed decision making by patients, families, nurse colleagues, and other healthcare providers.
- Family-centered care – Provides nursing care and health education reflecting patient, family, cultural, and community needs.
- Identifies learning needs and implements an effective teaching plan.
- Uses strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
- Evaluates effectiveness of health education in culturally and developmentally appropriate ways.
- Autonomous Practice – Exercises independent judgment that influences care and demonstrates understanding of potential clinical implications.
- Supervises, delegates, and provides care based on the abilities and limitations of care personnel and patient acuity.
- Identifies and incorporates evidence-based improvements into daily work.
Required
- Documentation of completion of a professional nursing program (RN program)
- Current RN license through the MN Board of Nursing
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification (exception: Telehealth RNs). If a candidate holds CPR through another acceptable organization, they may begin employment but must complete BLS through the American Heart Association within one month of employment.
- Interest in working with people with short-term or long-term disabilities that begin in childhood.
- Physical ability to meet the hours and physical demands of the position, including off-premises call schedule in certain departments.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other healthcare-related field
- Prior nursing experience in a health-related setting
- Nursing Specialty Certification relevant to the position
