Job Overview
Job Title: Nursing Assistant on the Oncology Unit n’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN (Fairview).
ScheduleThis role is a 0.8 FTE (64 hours) per 2 weeks, 8-hour night shifts, with every other weekend rotation and includes holiday hours. Variable schedule. Night shifts are 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM.

About this UnitThe Med/Surg Oncology unit has 32 beds, 16 with lifts, serving patients 18 years and older. Oncologу, Hospice, GI, Urology, Bariatric Surgical, Medical-Surgical and Telemetry patients comprise the unit mix. Opportunities exist to acquire Med/Surg and Chemo Certifications.
Job ResponsibilitiesThe Nursing Assistant, as a member of the interdependent team led by a designated RN, is accountable to perform patient care duties and activities for a group of patients. Responsibilities include vital sign checks, bladder scanning, blood sugar testing, and documentation of cares provided.
- Demonstrates commitment to the universal guiding principles of the patient care model to support the M Health Fairview Nursing vision.
- Supports the Nursing Process to achieve outcomes focused on patient care, aligning with Watson's theory of caring and the Professional Partnership Model.
- Communicates accurately with patients, families and health care team members. Reinforces patient education as directed by clinical staff.
- Delivers customer service excellence by understanding the needs of patients, families, physicians and inter-dependent team members.
- Documents patient information in the EHR or other electronic systems in accordance with program standards and department policies/procedures.
- Maintains knowledge of and complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
- Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification. OnTrack participants must obtain BLS upon completion of the OnTrack program.
AND
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
OR
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care or acute care setting (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, or Emergency Room Technician).
OR
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one semester of clinical rotation within the program.
OR
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (not required to be maintained if transitioning to another Nursing Assistant/ Nursing Station role).

CompensationThe posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in the union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of posting. Individual pay rate within this range may be influenced by FTE, skills, knowledge, education, and experience as specified in the contract. If eligible for a sign-on bonus, the approved program at the time of offer will be honored.
