Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver for residents during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Deliver age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per care plans.
- Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
- Provide psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned residents.
- Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, walking, and performing range‑of‑motion and passive exercises using correct transfer techniques and equipment.
- Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience for residents.
- Assist residents with meals and snacks, and provide water and supplements as appropriate.
- Support nursing staff with procedures when needed.
- Document resident interactions, outcomes, and any changes in condition, and communicate concerns to the charge nurse.
- Collect non‑invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
- Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents in keeping living areas clean and operational.
- Assist with wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation.
- May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as required.
- High school graduate or GED preferred (not required).
- Minimum age 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the state board or state‑certified CNA within four months of employment. Certification must be completed through a training program or obtained via endorsement.
- Complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits; minimum 12 hours of continuing education annually.
- Maintain all required certifications.
- Registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry when applicable.
- Depending on facility responsibilities, may qualify as a Sanford Category II Driver, requiring a motor vehicle report, proof of a valid driver’s license, and medical fitness to perform driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
