Volunteer/Service Coordinator Job Description

Como Connects

Primary function for new Como Connects Volunteer Services Coordinator are:

The person in this position is primarily responsible for arranging volunteer services for neighborhood seniors and organizations/agencies/facilities we partner with. They must be responsive to the always changing availability of volunteers, needs of clients and services available from other agencies. The Volunteer/Service Coordinator works closely with Como Connects Executive Director, staff and contracted medical professionals and agencies. This position requires an ability to respond quickly to sudden needs, work independently and have a high level of competency with CMRs’ and Social Media.

Primary

Duties and Responsibilities Community Outreach
  • Provide outreach to inform the community of the services provided by the Como Connects.
  • Meet with neighborhood groups and individuals for the purpose of recruiting volunteers, locating seniors needing services and/or families needing caregiver support.
  • Meet and complete intake forms and risk assessments with individual seniors in their homes (or over the phone when face‑to‑face risk of exposure to contagious illnesses exists).
  • Work with staff to develop and implement community health and wellness programming, including weekly blood pressure clinics, mediation and light yoga sessions and art classes at Arbor Pointe and semiannual vaccination clinics.
Service/Volunteer Coordination
  • Organize, implement, monitor, track in Apricot database and evaluate all volunteer activities associated with Como Connects.
  • Ability to take the lead on our organizations database is a requirement of this position. Training sessions will be offered and IT support will be readily available.
  • Develop and implement a recruitment plan for volunteers, organize and conduct training and provide supportive supervision of volunteers.
  • Interview and evaluate volunteer applicants to determine their skills, interests and abilities. Select volunteers and place them appropriately with clients.
  • Evaluate volunteer performance by consulting with clients, nursing staff, the Executive Director and others involved with the delivery of service.
  • Provide recognition and appreciation activities for volunteers.
  • Attend care conferences and training as necessary.
  • Collaborate with volunteer coordinators from other Live Well at Home grantees to generate ideas and avoid duplication of work.
  • Help clients access services and programs of Como Connects offers, as well as those of other agencies and sources.
  • Monitor the client’s use of other services that fulfill a short term or ongoing need.
  • Become familiar with community resources, make check‑in calls and assess client status as needed. Provide referrals and coordinate services with the nursing agency as needed.
  • Stay currently on electronic records on service coordination and volunteer clients.
  • Maintain up-to-date files on available services for seniors.
  • Track all referrals made on an Excel spreadsheet. This is a monthly process and the information is made available to Como Connects Executive Director by the end of every quarter.
  • Enter all client and volunteer information, visits and needs in organizations software.
  • Monitor volunteers background checks, documentation, driver’s license status, and insurance status.
Reporting and general duties
  • Provide monthly reports to the Executive Director by the 4th of every month for the purpose of reporting to funders and the Board of Directors.
  • Meet with Como Connect's Executive Director at the start of each week to set goals and go over deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills in service/volunteer coordination.
  • Two or more years of experience working with volunteers, seniors and/or related activities. Experience can be from paid work or as a volunteer.
  • Strong communication and “people” skills.
  • Education or training in a related field.
  • Experience working in neighborhood settings on community activities.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Must be skilled at using CRMs, Excel, Word and social media platforms well enough to post on multiple sites at once as well as pull reports on a weekly basis.
  • Able to think creatively and at the same time be able to track multiple moving pieces appropriate to volunteer management and events planning.
  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License and car are required.
Compensation

16 hours per week to start.

$20 per hour
