Position: Lead Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic - 2nd Shift Starting pay $41

Under general supervision, this position will be responsible for ensuring prompt customer service to all production and support areas regarding daily maintenance operations. Other responsibilities include providing direction and leadership for shift mechanics regarding work assignments, equipment operation, shift reports, quality, food and human safety, GMP compliance, sanitation, maintenance shop cleanliness, break/lunch administration, training, etc.

Schedule:

5‑8 hour days, every other weekend, 10:00 am‑8:30 pm. Pay starting at $41.00‑$48.00 DOQ. Additional $1.50 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 6 pm‑6 am.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Trains new employees and assigns tasks to mechanics; explains work procedures, demonstrates operation of diagnostic equipment, and checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with department work and safety standards.
  • Provides emergency unscheduled troubleshooting and repairs of production equipment during the manufacturing process, performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production and facility equipment.
  • Performs mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and carpentry troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production line machines.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Creates and modifies preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Coordinates and expedites repair operations with production supervisors.
  • Coordinates work orders, monitors progress and ensures high‑quality repairs.
  • Plans and executes preventative maintenance plans.
  • Provides daily departmental reports (project status, downtime/repair logs).
  • Communicates equipment issues with other shift leads and production supervisors to ensure issues are observed and/or addressed.
  • Installs and tests new food manufacturing, packaging, and processing equipment.
  • Identifies and justifies equipment improvements and modifications.
  • Assists with developing, planning, scheduling, and implementing capital projects.
  • Utilizes computer tools to track and record maintenance activities.
  • Reports unsafe conditions and work‑related accidents to team leader, plant manager, or safety manager immediately.
  • Ensures daily adherence to GMP, PPE, LOTO, SOP, HACCP and OSHA regulations.
  • All other duties assigned.
Minimum

Job Requirements

Education/Certifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Two to four years of manufacturing maintenance experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio and percent; interpret bar graphs.
  • Proficient in working with cutting torch, grinder, drill press, milling machine, lathe, and hand tools.
  • Proficient in working with motors, brakes, and clutches.
  • Proficient in welding and metal fabrication.
  • Proficient in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting hardwire controls of 480 and 120 volts.
  • Must also be able to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Must have basic PLC experience.
  • Must be available to work off shifts.
  • Demonstrates experience in high volume production environment (food industry a plus).
  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Works easily under pressure in a busy environment with shifting priorities.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
  • Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment, forklifts, chemical and electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards, and communicable diseases.
  • Position requires the ability to stand, walk around office, warehouse, and plant; lift and carry packages up to 50 lb; and use fine dexterity, reach, kneel, crawl, and twist daily. Also requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate with associates.
  • PPE such as bump caps, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, ear plugs, lockout devices, and fall protection will be provided by C.H. Guenther and Son.
