About The Position

The Extrusion Technician will be responsible for all aspects of over‑the‑air and over‑the‑core extrusion equipment. You will ensure continuous production to meet quality and delivery goals, troubleshoot machines, multi‑task multiple machines, and provide support to meet daily targets. As the technician, you will solve technical problems both hands‑on and in team settings.

Work Location / Schedule
  • The position requires the employee to be onsite at our Vital Path Maplewood, MN location.
  • Shift/

    Schedule:

    Second Shift – Monday to Thursday, 2:00 pm‑1:00 am (4×10 hour days).
  • Vital Path does not offer relocation assistance for this position.
Responsibilities
  • Independently start machines and set controls to specified temperature, speed, and adjust as necessary.
  • Perform tear‑down, setting up, selecting dyes and parts according to specifications, and performing basic maintenance on the extrusion machine(s).
  • Operate the extrusion machines, including laser mic and ultrasound, with full set‑up and tear‑down.
  • Extrude complex parts such as co‑extrusions, tri‑layer, multi‑lumen and second pass over braid.
  • Perform in‑process inspection, package extrusions and label.
  • Perform mandrel reflow extrusion test.
  • Measure and examine extruded products for 100 % quality, adjusting equipment to eliminate defects.
  • Assist running R&D / prototype extrusion runs.
  • Collect and provide extrusion data to ERP, engineer(s) and production management.
  • Frequent troubleshooting of equipment, tools and processes.
  • Work cross‑functionally with other departments to achieve continuous improvement goals/metrics.
  • Train extrusion operators and track their performance.
  • Support or lead inline improvements and enhancements through engineering drawings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED plus related certification/training.
  • 5+ years extrusion work experience.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and promote teamwork among others.
  • Excellent knowledge of work order and manufacturing process procedures.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) skills.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 13485 and cGMP.
  • Experience working with polymers—particularly Pebax, Nylon, PEEK, urethanes.
  • General math skills with metric conversions.
  • Understand basic blueprints/specifications.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds periodically.
  • Required to stand for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post‑High School education in a related field.
  • Additional extrusion or plastic injection molding classroom training or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with vacuum extrusions.
  • 2–3 years of medical device experience in a clean room environment.
Compensation Package
  • Hourly range: $26.65 – $30.19.
  • Position eligible for an annual performance bonus based on meeting Vital Path’s bonus performance plan.
