The Laborer will move, fuel, clean, test and perform basic repairs on the locomotives in a fast‑paced, safety‑oriented environment in compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined and enjoys working outdoors.
Position Accountabilities- Fuel, sand locomotives and re‑supply cab amenities while in for servicing.
- Perform inspections and repairs on all locomotives, fuel tanks, cab equipment and evaluate parts for reuse or replacement.
- Service locomotive cabs which include cleaning cab walls, locomotive toilets, windows and floors.
- Test all cab electrical devices, set up cab brakes as per requirements of the train operations, test all safety devices and ensure crew‑to‑crew forms are completed.
- Clean and sweep shop floors, remove snow around doors and keep the shop area in an orderly fashion.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
- Minimum one year working on heavy equipment.
- Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions.
- Ability to pass the required written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, rules, regulations and other written or printed material in English.

- Medical and Drug Testing – This is a safety‑sensitive position; a successful pre‑employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required. Post‑hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
- Background Investigation – Criminal history check, education verification, driver’s license verification and driving history, Social Security Number verification, Department of Transportation Background Check 40.25 Form.
