Position Summary:
The Painter/Maintenance Associate supports the care, appearance, and functionality of campus facilities by performing skilled interior and exterior painting along with a range of general maintenance duties. This position helps ensure an attractive, safe, and well‑maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while contributing to the preservation and upkeep of university buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform interior and exterior painting, including surface preparation, priming, staining, varnishing and finishing to maintain facilities.
- Inspect and repair painted surfaces, ensuring quality and durability in high-traffic areas; assist in keeping the historical preservation of facilities where assigned.
- Assist with general maintenance tasks such as minor carpentry, drywall repair, basic plumbing and electrical fixes as needed; collaborate to prioritize work orders and responses to urgent maintenance requests.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition; ensure safe storage and handling of paints and chemicals, and maintain accurate paint‑usage records within the designated database.
- Supervise student employees.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2-5 years’ professional painting experience
- Maintain a growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflect His character in all interactions, and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, Doctrinal Statement and Declaration of Christian Community
Nice to Have:
- Vocational or technical training in painting, building maintenance, or related trades

Entry‑level ability to perform simple plumbing repairs, basic carpentry, minor electrical tasks, and assist with carpet or tile installation. - Guidance & Safety:
Assist in demonstrating proper tool use, safe lifting techniques, and basic equipment care, and share feedback to support safe, high‑quality work. - Computer Proficiency:
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and related software. - Written & Verbal Communication:
Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills. - Flexibility:
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed, including on-call for snow removal. - Driver’s License:
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation. - Background Check:
Must pass initial and ongoing background checks as a condition of employment.
