About the role:
Provides legal assistance to Corporate and Patent Counsel. Acts as liaison between company attorneys and outside counsel. Compiles data from legal digests and other resource documents. Directs outside counsel and assists Corporate or Patent Counsel in preparing and filing legal documents where appropriate. Conducts research on projects as directed by Corporate or Patent Counsel or supervisor. Assists with Guidant's regulatory compliance and monitors progress of cases.
Maintains patent and trademark portfolios.
Work Mode: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at three days per week.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Research acquiring trademarks for proposed product name by searching online resources, legal reference material, and outside sources.
- Assist outside counsel with all trademark filings both domestic and international by researching findings and considering legal risks. Present findings to legal staff as well as other B/U departments (e.g., Marketing) as dictated by project demands and supervisory instructions.
- Maintain trademark listings and monitor the prosecution of applications by consulting with internal and external counsel ensuring efficient and effective documentation and filings in legal database.
- Attend seminars and training sessions as needed to remain current and informed on applicable laws and regulations.
- Support Corporate and Patent Counsel in corporate litigation procedures by obtaining and organizing documents, drawings, and financial statements for representation by corporate counsel.
- Assist with document productions and interrogatory requests. Ensure files and documentation are retrievable in a manner consistent with its use by Corporate Counsel.
- Schedule meetings associated with internal and external counsel ensuring times, schedules, and rooms.
- May review invoices associated with payment for services, ensuring costs are reasonable and invoices are accurate.
- May assist with educating and training legal secretaries on departmental DOPs and SOPs and providing administrative support when necessary.
- Support Senior Counsel in corporate record keeping function by preparing corporate resolutions, ensuring corporate compliance with requirements of applicable state agencies and offices, and maintaining corporate Minute Books and other related records.
- Support Senior Counsel by generating standard agreements from templates and acting as liaison with Guidant employees to provide information regarding the agreement request process, status of in-process agreements and retrieval and copying of executed agreements from files.
- Act as liaison between Senior Counsel and other contracting parties regarding revisions to in-process agreements.
- Maintain hard copies of agreement files as well as electronic database for tracking signed agreements. Generate reports from agreement database as requested by Senior Counsel.
Required qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of general corporate paralegal experience (litigation defense and product liability experience a plus) at a law firm and/or at a public company. Medical device industry experience is strongly desired.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Excellent attention to detail, legal research and writing, communication and project management skills.
