The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) seeks a Real Estate Title Attorney to implement the title services program in the Office of Land Management, providing statewide support for acquiring good and marketable title to real estate assets. The incumbent will travel to counties across Minnesota, prepare title opinions, review supporting documents, and advise on direct purchase and condemnation processes.
Responsibilities- Implement the title services program by traveling to various counties, researching and analyzing land records, and preparing title opinions based on Minnesota Title Standards.
- Review title opinions, field title reports, market data reports, and other supporting documents to determine legal interests for direct purchase and condemnation.
- Provide support for direct purchases, including preparing acquisition documents, advising on methods to resolve title defects, and assessing risks associated with each method.
- Offer legal advice on property management matters, including conveyances, permits, leases, and agreements.
- Draft and review real estate documents, conduct legal research, and review proposed legislation.
- A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
- A current license to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
- Two years of advanced professional title experience, including preparing title opinions/commitments for real property and performing title abstractions.
- Experience with real property law, title examination, and drafting acquisition and conveyance instruments.
- Proficiency with legal descriptions sufficient to prepare a title opinion for the acquisition of real property.
- Strong legal research, analysis, and client counseling skills.
- Experience in the acquisition process through direct purchase or condemnation, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Advanced legal writing experience for clear and concise memos, bulletins, articles, correspondence, training materials, and presentations.
Successful candidate must pass past‑employer reference checks and a criminal history check. All candidates will undergo a background investigation, including SEMA4 Records Check, Criminal History Check, Employment Reference Check, Driver’s License Check, and/or Education/License Verification.
