Interim Business Analyst

Seeking an experienced Business Analyst (contract) to support a critical system evaluation and implementation initiative. This role will act as a hands on consultant embedded with the project team to document, optimize, and standardize lab and related business processes; translate business needs into clear requirements; and support vendor selection and onboarding.

This is a process heavy, business facing role, not a technical systems analyst. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in operational environments, facilitating workshops, and helping teams move from current state reality to a clear, scalable future state.

Location: On site in St. Paul, MN
Hourly Rate: $50-60/hr DOE

• Partner with lab, field, and operations stakeholders to document current state business processes (end to end workflows).
• Identify gaps, inefficiencies, handoff issues, and variability across locations.
• Facilitate working sessions to define future state processes that are scalable, standardized where appropriate, and practical for day to day use.
• Support process standardization efforts aligned with broader enterprise initiatives.
• Ensure work processes include compliance and safety standards, where applicable.

• Translate future state processes into clear, structured business requirements (functional, nonfunctional, reporting, data, integration considerations).
• Ensure requirements are traceable, prioritized, and understandable by both business stakeholders and vendors.
• Maintain requirements documentation and support change control as understanding evolves.

• Support LIMS vendor evaluation and selection by aligning requirements to vendor capabilities.
• Assist with RFP/RFI inputs, vendor demos, and structured scoring from a business perspective.
• Help validate vendor assumptions against real operational workflows.
• Support onboarding and early implementation planning once a vendor is selected.

• Work closely with the Project Manager and Change Manager to ensure process and requirements work stays aligned to scope, timeline, and adoption goals.
• Contribute to readiness, training, and transition considerations tied to new processes and systems.
• Serve as a bridge between business users and technical/system teams.

• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Process Consultant in complex operational environments.
• Strong background in business process documentation, analysis, and optimization.
• Experience supporting enterprise system selection and implementation (ERP, LIMS, manufacturing, lab, or operations systems).
• Proven ability to translate business needs into clear, structured requirements.
• Comfortable facilitating workshops and working directly with front line users and leaders.

• Experience with laboratory operations, testing environments, or regulated workflows (LIMS experience strongly preferred).
• Exposure to field to lab workflows, quality systems, or operational data flows.
• Experience working in professional services, engineering, environmental, or technical services organizations.
• Familiarity with change management or adoption considerations during system implementations.

• Strong facilitation and listening skills.
• Structured, analytical thinker who can simplify complexity.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity and iterative environments.
• Practical and pragmatic—focused on what will actually work.
• Credible with operational leaders and front line staff.
• Able to balance standardization with real world constraints.
