Face to Face Health and Counseling is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing economic and health equity for youth ages 11–24. We do this work through a comprehensive approach that includes medical, mental health, housing, education and employment, youth justice, and community programs. We take a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to our work and center the needs of young people impacted by racism and other forms of oppression and marginalization.

Founded in 1972, Face to Face serves more than 3,000 youth annually.

Job Summary

Face to Face Health and Counseling is a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of youth ages 11–24. We offer health care, counseling, and programs for homeless youth. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) performs both clinical and administrative functions to support high-quality patient care and the efficient operation of the clinic. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist Nurse Practitioners and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care, organization, and communication.

In addition, the CMA provides coverage for the front desk team as needed, ensuring that patients experience a welcoming and efficient visit. Key duties include rooming patients, collecting and processing specimens, administering immunizations and medications, and providing health education. This position may also support tasks beyond the direct scope of the role to help maintain smooth clinic operations. This is a part-time position, 15 hours/week, and requires availability during all hours of operation Monday through Friday.

Additional hours may be available to provide coverage for PTO.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical support to ensure time-sensitive and smooth clinic flow.
  • Assist with rooming and scheduling to determine preventive health or acute care visits.
  • Review patients’ health history and presenting concerns/symptoms, and prepare them for exams or visits as indicated.
  • Utilize standing orders to provide appropriate care.
  • Administer medications as ordered by providers.
  • Record and monitor immunizations using MIIC.
  • Follow safe vaccine storage practices and documentation procedures for the Minnesota Vaccine for Children program and UUAV.
  • Provide health education on a variety of topics, including preparation for gynecological exams, STI prevention and treatment, and family planning methods, using a nondirective education approach.
  • Perform phlebotomy; process and prepare blood and urine for in-house testing and lab send-outs.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test records.
  • Clean, autoclave, and maintain clinic instruments and exam rooms; restock supplies daily.
  • Provide coverage for the front desk team as needed, ensuring patients experience a welcoming and efficient visit.
  • Deliver services guided by evidence-based principles for supporting youth experiencing homelessness.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient clinic operations, including providing front desk coverage or assisting with laboratory tasks.
Qualifications
  • Certification by AAMA at time of employment or within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistance training program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in providing patient care and laboratory services in a clinic setting.
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in electronic health records.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Qualified to work in a highly complex laboratory as mandated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds.
