Department Overview

The Social Work department provides emotional support and counseling to children and their families. They provide crisis intervention services, help with adjustment issues, grief and loss counseling, mental health assessments, case coordination, community advocate support, and short-term therapeutic interventions.

Position Summary

Seeking a social worker (LSW) to work in partnership with our clinical social work team to enhance care for patients presenting through our emergency department in behavioral or mental health crisis through resource mobilization, case management, psycho‑education and advocacy. This role will support efforts to reduce readmission through safe and sustainable discharges. Seeking enhanced data collection to foster organizational and community advocacy on behalf of patients and families.

Support department goals of effective, consistent and efficient discharge plans. Role will be based in St. Paul with the ability to provide support to Minneapolis virtually or in person. Day/Eve availability preferred. Schedule 11a‑7p.

License/Certification/Registration
  • LSW per MN Board of Social Work requirements required
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) required
Experience
  • 2 years of pediatric social work or related experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Native or fluent in more than one language (Spanish or Somali) - preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly effective listening and ability to show empathy
  • Comfortable with change, ability to be flexible, and be a proactive problem‑solver
  • Ability to build trust and connections with patients/families to ensure resource needs are identified and ultimately utilized
  • Awareness of health care disparities, social determinants of health and grounding in health equity
  • Strong organization skills, timeliness and attention to detail
  • Computer knowledge and ability to effectively utilize technology
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Compensation and Benefits

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on‑call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
