Position PurposeThe Behavioral Health Direct Care Specialist (BHDCS) provides direct support to individuals experiencing significant mental health challenges. They are responsible for developing, revising, and implementing support plans to help individuals achieve stability. The BHDCS works direct care hours with assigned individuals during day/evening shifts, reviewing assessments and implementing care plans. They also provide recommendations for adjustments, support staff training, and ensure plans respect the rights and needs of individuals, in accordance with company policies.
The BHDCS assists in coordinating and implementing Individual Program Plans, including activities of daily living, community integration, socialization, and health management.
- Work with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, understanding their needs, and developing strategies for support.
- Perform cares and activities according to individual preferences and needs, including household chores, community involvement, and social skills.
- Implement and update Positive Support Strategies within care plans, and train staff accordingly.
- Document activities and plan adjustments per procedures.
- Support individuals with mental health diagnoses, including training staff and liaising with professionals.
- Advocate for individuals' needs and respond to emotional and social needs appropriately.
- Follow infection control protocols as required.
- Adhere to safety policies, promote a safe environment, and follow lifting and transfer guidelines.
- Comply with all policies, procedures, and regulations, including federal and state licensing rules.
- Attend mandatory training and participate in continuing education.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, demonstrate professionalism, and uphold confidentiality and respect.
- High School Diploma required.
- Certification as a Mental Health Technician/Behavioral Health Technician required.
- Minimum 2 years supervisory/management experience or a 4-year degree in a related field.
- Experience in mental health, development of behavior/mental health plans, CPR/First Aid certified within 60 days, valid driver's license, and ability to work flexible shifts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to operate household and office equipment.
