Hours:
Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM;
Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM; rotational weekends.
Pay range: $23.00 – $28.00 per hour.
Job Description: The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing point‑of‑care testing (POC) and venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children, and supporting all related functions.
Responsibilities- Collect blood and/or perform POC tests as assigned.
- Clean and restock POC supplies and prepare phlebotomy carts/trays.
- Assist coworkers with draws and POC testing.
- Draw venous or capillary blood from newborn to geriatric patients using proper aseptic techniques.
- Deliver all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames.
- Draw into proper tubes and culture vials according to test purpose.
- Perform and process all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
- Complete clerical functions associated with POC testing documents.
- Report incidents/issues regarding patients or employees in a timely manner to group leader or supervisor.
- Report supply needs and equipment defects in a timely manner.
- Log refrigerator temperatures daily and report any out‑of‑range readings to group leader or supervisor.
- Travel and perform phlebotomy duties and POC testing at health fairs, PSA testing sites, and deliver specimens to the laboratory as needed.
- Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care specific to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, visual or hearing impairment).
- Communicate with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their level of development, literacy, and cultural background.
- Adhere to standards identified in the clinic’s Organizational Competencies.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1–15 lbs frequently; 16–25 lbs occasionally; 26–40 lbs rarely; >41 lbs with assistance).
- Sit or stand for long periods; requires sustained eye and hand coordination.
- Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently throughout the day.
- Position requires travel.
- Extensive use of phone and PC.
- Fine dexterity and steadiness with hand.
- Ability to talk, walk, balance, bend/kneel, push/pull, reach/twist.
