About the Job
The Lillehei Heart Institute is a premier institute at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis with state-of-the-art technologies and core facilities focused on muscle physiology, stem cell biology, heart failure, and arrhythmia. We are accepting applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate with an interest in cardiac arrhythmias and diastolic heart failure. Preference will be given for those with skill sets including mouse echocardiography, surgery, and electrophysiology.
This position will have an on-campus presence requirement.
50% Lead research projects pertaining to inflammation and atrial fibrillation (AF). Study how inflammation can promote atrial electrical, Ca2+-handling, and structural remodeling that initiates AF in a model of metabolic syndrome. Use mouse models to be both mechanistic and clinically relevant, employing a range of techniques such as echocardiography, histology, and immunohistochemical analyses.
20% Collaboration with other laboratory scientists and outside scientific partners in the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments is essential. Prepare manuscripts for submission to scientific journals, assist in preparing grant applications, and present at scientific meetings.
10% Detailed documentation of procedures and experimental data is required. Analyze data, write summary reports on results, and discuss results with laboratory colleagues and Principal Investigator.
10% Strong communication with the PI, laboratory colleagues, and outside scientific members is of the utmost importance.
10% Presentation of independent review of relevant scientific literature for ongoing projects and discussions of possible new experimental approaches with laboratory colleagues and the principal Investigator. Regular presentations of scientific data and significant contribution to manuscript preparation are required.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a discipline related to cardiac physiology or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Mouse echocardiography
- Mouse surgery
- Mouse in vivo electrophysiology
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience communicating results and concepts with a diverse audience including molecular biologists and laboratory scientists.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent planning, organization, and execution skills.
- Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prepare manuscripts for presentation and publication.
- Cell culture skills (primary and cell lines)
- Demonstrated experience with mouse models of cardiovascular disease
- Demonstrated experience with genotypic and phenotypic analyses
- RT PCR and qPCR
- scRNA‑seq technologies
- FACS analysis
- Immunohistochemistry and tissue sectioning
- Biochemical assays (ELISAs, Western Blot, TUNEL, etc)
Pay Range: $62,232 - $75,564, depending on education/qualifications/experience and NIH stipend level
