The Department of Corrections has an important mission of Transforming Lives for a safer Minnesota. The Grants Specialist Sr works on a centralized Grants and P/T Contracts team focused on ensuring compliant granting and contracting activity for DOC. This position will get to work with external county and non‑profit organizational partners, along with internal program areas focuses on Re‑Entry and Parole and Probation Supervision.
This team does a great deal of cross‑training between grants and contracts and works together to provide excellent customer service!
This position will monitor for compliance and administer incoming and outgoing grants, with some work in Professional/Technical contracts, for county probation offices, Community Corrections Act counties, sheriff's offices, non‑profit organizations, and community vendors. Primary responsibilities will include full cycle grants management, financial management and administration, implementing grant policies and procedures, and providing high levels of customer service and technical assistance to both internal and external customers.
Minimum QualificationsTo be qualified for and considered for this position, ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
- Three (3) years of experience in grants administration or closely related field with primary responsibilities being to analyze, process, and monitor assigned grants to ensure compliance with administrative process. An Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field may substitute for six (6) months of experience. A Bachelor’s degree in a field above may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
A Master’s Degree in a field above may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience. - Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with federal, state, and local government officials, along with internal agency partners.
- Experience working with diverse communities and/or individuals
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
- Experience managing grants or contracts in a government setting.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting policies, procedures, laws, or administrative rules
- Experience with grants management systems
- Experience with SWIFT
