The Impact You Will HaveBlue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is hiring an Actuary to support actuarial reserving and forecasting. The role integrates traditional actuarial practice with modern predictive analytics. The candidate will expand knowledge of reserving practices and loss analytics, gain insight into key challenges and opportunities, and apply advanced techniques to evaluate healthcare claim liabilities. Responsibilities include predictive modeling, supporting model development that informs reserving, forecasting, and broader actuarial decision‑making.
Your Responsibilities- Research, analyze and interpret actuarial and statistical data and provide technical assistance to other departments, including problem identification, impact estimation, and resolution.
- Develop mathematical models with other departments to predict the impact of proposed changes, and may participate in model design.
- Understand and interpret the financial impact of decisions by retrieving and analyzing claim costs, revenue, and other relevant data; provide recommendations for new products or system enhancements.
- Represent a division on corporate projects, potentially leading teams and managing multiple data tasks with minimal supervision.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for departmental members, including training actuarial support personnel or analysts.
- Complete other accountabilities assigned by management.
- 5+ years of related professional experience (including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience).
- ASA or above.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent PC skills and knowledge of data retrieval languages.
- Knowledge of BCBSM databases or industry knowledge.
- High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor's degree.
- FSA strongly preferred.
- MAAA strongly preferred.
- Proven experience building predictive models using Python.
- Demonstrated ability to present IBNR findings to executive leadership.
- Strong data science and programming background with at least 2 years of advanced Python development.
- Experience in healthcare, including managing substantial IBNR across various segments.
- Strong desire to learn.
Pay Range: $ - $ - $ Annual
Pay is based on factors such as skills, ability, and the selected individual's knowledge brought to the role.
