The work you'll do includes but is not limited to:
- Assist the Design Flexibility Engineer and Design Support Section Director with analysis, research, technical writing, design investigation, project and program management, contract initiation and management, and education and outreach.
- Provide assistance, information, training and leadership to MnDOT district offices and statewide road design community.
- Respond to inquiries regarding Performance-Based Practical Design (PBPD) process and principles; review design memoranda and geometric layouts; aid in concept and preliminary design development.
- Develop performance-based and other tools and methods for the benefit of road design practitioners; develop, administer, and contribute to training programs.
- Participate in and chair research project panels locally and nationally; speak and present to internal and external audiences.
- Assist in the implementation of flexibility in design, PBPD, and complete streets. Conduct project development activities related to geometric design to ensure feasible, efficient, practical, and prudent alternatives aligned with Complete Streets, PBPD, CSS, and MnDOT/AASHTO design guidance.
Licensure
- Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). If licensure is obtained through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.
Experience
- Three (3) years of post-registration engineering experience at the Engineer Senior level (or equivalent) that demonstrates:
- Experience in roadway design and/or highway/street project development;
- Knowledge of state and national design policies related to geometric design, highway safety, roadway capacity, and practical and performance-based design;
- Experience drafting with Open Roads Designer (i.e., Micro Station).
