Job Description

The Project Estimator is responsible for creating proposals and bid documents in response to RFQs from customers. Based on an analysis of project technical requirements, they coordinate with sales, project management, engineering, procurement, and other project stakeholders to develop cost‑effective solutions that provide the best value to our customers. Solutions include construction, engineering, manufacturing, or other implementation projects. The Project Estimator collects data and analyzes all project costs, including raw materials, labor, equipment, and tooling to ensure estimates are accurate.

They identify and quantify potential cost uncertainties to ensure costing models capture the full range of potential costs and update costs as necessary based on new information and project scope changes.

Job Title:

Aerospace Estimator Responsibilities
  • Work independently and collaboratively on moderately complex aspects of a project.
  • Consult with Engineering Management to identify differences between new bids and historical bids to develop cost and price estimates for similar projects.
  • Develop cost estimates, proposals, compliance matrix, and other bid documents for projects in response to customer RFQs and specifications.
  • Ensure proposal, bid documents, and price estimates are consistent with each other.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Engineering to balance competing priorities of cost and function to develop cost‑effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with different engineering disciplines to develop solutions compliant with customer requirements.
  • Partner with Supply Chain Management to identify vendors and obtain quotations for sub‑contracted work.
  • Assist Supply Chain Management in maintaining effective communication between suppliers and the company.
  • Participate in sales discussions with customers and assist Sales in detailed scope discussions.
  • Mentor and train more junior team members.
  • Assist other Project Estimators and the Quoting Manager with developing supporting bids from international counterparts.
  • Develop and maintain cost estimates and proposal text for standardized equipment.
  • Participate in the development of promotional activities such as sales literature development and standard costing models.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word, knowledgeable in MS Project and PowerPoint.
  • Strong mathematical skills and appreciation for the technical aspects of the job.
  • Ability to interpret assembly drawings.
  • Minimum of 2 years of real‑world experience utilizing an Aerospace Engineering degree.
  • Proven ability to think critically about both customer needs and solutions.

The team consists of three people and operates within an office environment shared with the engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with long‑term aspirations in Sales or Project Management.

This is a Contract position based out of New Brighton, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $43.00/hr.
