Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Metallurgical Engineer. In this role, you will work with engineers and technicians to direct and perform tasks related to metallurgical materials testing including metallography, mechanical testing, and sample preparation.

Salary: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00/yr DOE

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, polish, and etch metallographic samples
  • Perform a variety of metallurgical evaluations including, but not limited to; microhardness, banding, carburization/decarburization, pitting, grain size, intergranular attack, macro etching, coating thickness, microetching, coating weight, general microstructure evaluations, etc.
  • Perform physical testing such as tensile, hardness, bend testing, and Charpy impact testing
  • Interpret data, review, and report testing results
  • Possess strong inter-personal skills for verbal and written communication with customers
  • Perform equipment calibration and preventative maintenance
  • Manage and order lab supplies as needed
  • Participate in personal training, cross training of employees, and continued learning of testing techniques
Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Materials Science or a related field
  • 2-4 years related work experience preferred but not necessary
  • Interest in welding or CWI certification preferred
