Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Saint Paul MN

Sansom Staffing has partnered with a leader in the facilities design industry to add a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to their multi-disciplinary Facilities Design Team.

This role focuses on engineering and designing HVAC, plumbing, and utility piping systems (compressed air, nitrogen, vacuum, etc.) for industrial and commercial environments.

This role works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team that includes Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, and Fire Alarm‑Security Systems professionals.

Note:

This is not a product development or machine design position. Candidates must have construction project experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct heating and cooling load analyses.
  • Review Test & Balance reports to ensure proper air balance and room pressurizations.
  • Design spaces and size/select equipment such as AHUs, FCUs, exhaust fans, and extraction arms.
  • Develop plumbing plans and riser diagrams.
  • Prepare mechanical plans, schedules, equipment specifications, design details, and construction documentation.
  • Provide input on the mechanical scope of work and fees for engineering proposals.
  • Attend client project site meetings and hybrid coordination meetings.
  • Perform fieldwork and site observations to document existing conditions and update drawings.
  • Collaborate with contractors to troubleshoot or resolve installation issues.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
  • 5+ years of experience designing mechanical building systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping) for commercial or industrial facilities
  • Ability or intent to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • E.I.T. candidates encouraged to apply
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit

    Typical 45‑hour work week; overtime is optional and paid at 1.5x after 40 hours
