Field/Service Technician
Location: St Paul
We are seeking experienced DACS Technicians to support large-scale network migration and decommissioning projects in Central Office (CO) environments
. This role requires hands-on experience working with DACS equipment, cross-connects, and DSX panels
, as well as the ability to work independently during overnight maintenance windows.
Accepting candidates from any U.S. state, provided they are willing to travel extensively (heavy travel) nationwide.
Employment Type: Long term Contract
Pay Rate: $30–$34/hour (based on experience) +
plus $80/day per diem paid every day you’re in the field — including
Travel: Heavy travel required – nationwide assignments
• Travel home covered once per month
• All travel expenses fully covered (hotel, milleage reimbursment, etc)
Schedule: Night maintenance windows (typically 10:00 PM – 5:00 AM)
Key Responsibilities- Perform network circuit grooms and verify new circuit paths are actively passing traffic
- Execute hot cuts using migration and groom documentation workbooks
- Use CLI (Command Line Interface) via serial connections (PuTTY or similar tools) to:
- View equipment status
- Clear DACS cross-connects
- Clear alarms and validate migrations
- Conduct site readiness, baseline assessments, and audits
- Prepare sites for migration, including required pre-wiring
- Physically trace and audit active circuits between equipment
- Perform circuit testing to verify traffic on new paths
- Coordinate with NOC / Tier III teams to prevent service disruptions
- Power down and decommission DACS and related telecom equipment
- Tag, trace, and properly manage cabling and removed assets
- Complete detailed documentation, site exit reports, and photo records
- Hands-on experience with DACS equipment and DSX panels
- Experience working in Central Office (CO) environments
- Familiarity with edge equipment
- Ability to perform hot cuts during maintenance windows
- Strong understanding of:
- Circuit testing, OTDR, power meters
- TDM, SONET, DWDM, basic networking concepts
- Comfortable measuring and recording power utilization (AMP readings)
- Experience working independently and during overnight windows
- Laptop use with serial ports and CLI-based equipment management
- Night maintenance windows required
- 5+ years of telecommunications field experience
- Multi-technology exposure (DWDM, SONET, Routers, Switches, DACS)
- Experience with asset recovery and inventory management
