St. Catherine University and the Department of Theology invite applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theology
, a full-time, nine‑month position beginning Fall 2026 for the 2026–2027 academic year. This one‑year appointment is created to provide instructional continuity to meet ongoing student demand for Theology courses, which are part of the University’s Core Curriculum. Given current and projected course offerings, a visiting faculty member is necessary to ensure adequate coverage of required Theology courses and to reduce reliance on adjunct faculty.
- Teach seven courses during the 2026–2027 academic year (six sections of Theology (THEO) and one section of CORE TRW: The Reflective Woman).
- Prepare course materials; assess student learning; hold regular office hours; and support student success.
- Teach in assigned modalities, which may include in-person, online, and hybrid formats.
- Participate in department meetings and activities.
- Assist with routine departmental functions and collaborative initiatives.
- Engage in limited college service appropriate to a teaching‑focused appointment.
- Fourteen (14) paid holidays and paid “gift” days when the University is closed.

Minimum Qualifications- Ph.D. or S.T.D. in Theology or a closely related field.
- At least one year of teaching experience in college‑level settings.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and relate to students from diverse religious backgrounds, including Muslim, Animist, Buddhist, Indigenous spiritualities, and non‑Catholic Christian traditions.
- Comfort teaching ecumenical and interfaith courses designed for students from a wide range of religious backgrounds.
- Ability to teach introductory theology and spirituality courses, such as Theological Questions and Theological Ethics.
- Experience teaching in multiple formats (in‑person, online, and hybrid).
- Proficiency using Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems.
- Knowledge of ecumenical and interfaith pedagogy appropriate for introductory theology and spirituality courses.

CompensationThe salary is $54,540 – $60,600 depending on qualifications and experience. The salary range listed reflects a good‑faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. St. Catherine reserves the right to modify or adjust compensation depending on University needs.
