Job DescriptionThe Director of Academic and Student Success provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Academic Success Center (ASC) at the Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks campuses. This position directs the daily administration of the ASC and oversees key functional areas, including disability services, library services, tutoring, testing, and student life.
The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive student support services, ensuring institutional compliance with federal regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The Director also champions initiatives that promote student success, retention, and a strong sense of belonging across Northland Community and Technical College.
Additional responsibilities include advancing student engagement and success on the East Grand Forks campus through oversight of Student Senate (student clubs), Student Ambassadors, and Student Life programs. The Director supervises and mentors departmental staff to cultivate a collaborative, high‑performing team environment and serves as a highly collaborative partner with academic and administrative departments across the college to support institutional goals related to student achievement and inclusion.
- Administration of Academic Success Center including disability services, tutoring, testing, and library services.
- Direct and supervise professional employees, college lab assistants, intermittent employees, and work‑study students. Ensure compliance with the College’s affirmative action plan ensuring equitable treatment of all employees and applicants for employment.
- Provide organizational leadership and direction for disability services.
- Direct Student Life for the East Grand Forks campus.
- Oversee and coordinate the pre‑enrollment assessment done for all students college‑wide.
- Three (3) years of experience in student support services (disability services, library services, tutoring, testing, or student life). A master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience; associate degree may substitute for six months of experience.
- Previous supervisory, lead worker, or leadership experience required.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Lead multi‑campus Academic and Student Success initiatives, analyze current environment and activities, and develop recommendations to align with college goals and objectives.
- Work with minimal supervision and initiative to make decisions independently regarding workload, problems or situation.
- Analyze academic and student support services and implement changes or improvements as needed.
- Hold commitment to equity and inclusion and the ability of every person to be a successful learner.
- Manipulate various software programs.
- Master’s or beyond with an emphasis related to education, administration or related.
- Experience in administration and/or supervision appropriate to the assignment.
- Experience working with Special Education in K-12 or college level.
- Experience with schedule management.
- Experience with budget management.
- Experience working for a higher education institution.
- Knowledge of ADA and Section 504 compliance.
- Familiarity with FERPA, Title IX, and accessibility technologies.
- Data‑driven decision‑making experience.
- Ability to lead Student Life programs and multi‑campus operations.
