Position:
Peace Guide, Part‑time
Hours:
20 hours per week to 3 additional hours per week during the school year, after initial training, for training, reporting, and meetings.
Schedule:
Schedules vary based on school site; hours are typically late morning through late afternoon, such as 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 4 days per week. Alternate schedules can be considered. Due to working in a school, nearly all hours will be scheduled from August to June with possible, infrequent hours in July as needed.

Pay Rate:
Hiring Range: $19.20 – 22.06. This part‑time position is also eligible for the following:

Peace Maker Minnesota offers part‑time employees the ability to participate in Peace Maker Minnesota’s retirement plan with a 3% employer match, consistent with the employee handbook. - Monthly Cell Phone Stipend: $18.00
- Mileage Reimbursement:
Peace Maker Minnesota will reimburse employees and volunteers for mileage while on Peace Maker Minnesota business. The standard business mileage reimbursement rate as determined by the IRS will be used. Miles driven from home to the primary work site and back are reimbursed; excess miles are also reimbursable. - Employee Assistance Program:
NuVantage EAP provides free, confidential services such as behavioral health counseling, legal referral services, financial counseling, and elder and dependent care assistance. The resource is available 24/7. - Sick and Safe Leave: 48 hours available to employees who work at least 80 hours in a year. Hours accrue at 1 hour per 30 hours worked for new hires and are available on January 1st each year.

Peace Guide Services exist to intervene in the lives of youth to help them learn to:
- Resolve problems and conflicts
- Build and sustain positive relationships
- Develop their self‑esteem
The main activity of the Peace Guide is to help youth develop skills in the domains of conflict resolution, positive relationships, and self‑esteem. Guides do this by:
- Conducting 1:1 sessions or conversations, or mediating an issue between two students
- Facilitating group sessions such as small groups, classroom presentations, or instruction in a Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, like Second Step
Peace Guides help youth develop the following skills:
- Conflict Resolution: reflective listening; recognizing, managing, and expressing feelings and needs; problem solving
- Positive Relationships: empathy, flexibility, reconciliation
- Self‑esteem: recognizing strengths, building a support network, practicing assertiveness
Peace Guides help kids feel listened to, valued, and cared for.
Working ConditionsThe Peace Guide will work at their assigned school. The Guide may occasionally need to attend meetings at the Peace Maker Minnesota office in Roseville, or travel to other Metro Area locations for training or meetings.

- Strong, effective interpersonal skills, including building relationships with students, school staff, and community members.
- Observational skills to identify when youth are engaged in conflicts that may be hidden from adults.
- Maintain and model calm and patience in high‑activity, high‑stress environments—lunchrooms, playgrounds, hallways, restrooms, and classrooms.
- Utilize the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach to help students solve problems and make healthy decisions.
- Work effectively with students, staff, and others from diverse cultural and experiential backgrounds.
- Write clearly, concisely, and detail‑oriented documentation for issues, actions taken, follow‑up, and resolution.
- Multi‑task in a dynamic, changing work environment.
- Work in a self‑directed manner, recognizing when problems warrant escalating to other staff or the supervisor.
