St. Paul Academy and Summit School (SPA) is a coeducational, nonsectarian, college preparatory day school serving more than 920 students in kindergarten through grade 12. Our two campuses are located approximately a mile apart in St. Paul, Minnesota, serving Grades K-5 on the Goodrich Campus and Grades 6-12 on the Randolph Campus. The school draws students from St. Paul, Minneapolis, and throughout the eastern and western suburbs.

Upper School ContextThe Upper School is home to students in Grades 9-12 and is characterized by advanced inquiry, lively discussion, deep engagement with topics, a strong sense of community, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students develop habits and relationships that carry them through high school and into the world of college and beyond. The Upper School’s rigorous academic curriculum and seminar-based learning model is complemented by a network of support including teachers, advisors, college counselors, and resources for academic and social/emotional well-being.

St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks an Upper School English Teacher to teach core 9th or 10th-grade English classes as well as upper-level electives. The position also includes supervising an advisory of 8-10 students.

Salary: $48,000 - $68,000 based on qualifications and experience

The ideal candidates will have strong academic training and expertise in teaching the study of literature, instruction in analytical and creative writing forms, and experience contributing to a high school program that creates an intentional curricular bridge between the expectations of 9th and 12th grades in terms of process, content, and skills. We seek candidates committed to developing and practicing cultural competence in their teaching.
We seek a teacher who has a passion for the teaching of readers and writers, and a track record leveraging this passion into effective practices that encourage all students to think creatively, engage ideas deeply, and lead with intellectual curiosity. Experience with successful collaboration on high school curriculum and course content design and development is desired. The successful candidate will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals.
RequirementsEducation
: BA degree in English or a related field is required; MA in English or Education is preferred.
Experience
:
Experience working with high school students and understanding of students’ developmental needs is required. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Candidates should support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Upper School, and be eager to join a professional community where collaboration is valued and openness to growth is the norm.
