Position Overview
The School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design (ALI) at the University of Minnesota invites applications for part-time faculty teaching positions at the level of Adjunct Assistant Professor. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in teaching and mentorship, either in the classroom or professional office, along with applied knowledge of contemporary landscape architecture practices. In particular, candidates should be able to demonstrate strong credentials related to one of the following areas of landscape architecture practice: the design of urban public space and ecological systems;
the theory and design of urban integrated infrastructure; the programming, design and construction of site-scale projects; advanced visual representation techniques; landscape analysis workflows, including methods for utilizing GIS data; and/or earthwork grading and stormwater management.
The appointment is specifically for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026.
Responsibilities- Course instruction, including course development and preparation of syllabi, lecture materials, course readings and other instructional materials.
- Hold regularly scheduled office hours and advise students regarding coursework and/or broader academic or career goals.
- Supervise graduate student teaching assistant(s).
- Coordinate with other faculty on learning objectives, deadlines, schedules, etc.
- Provide regular updates to Department Head regarding course instruction and student progress.
- Create a welcoming and professional classroom environment for students, faculty, staff.
- Identify opportunities to integrate diversity in course instruction.
Required Qualifications
- Accredited Professional degree in Landscape Architecture
- Professional project experience and demonstration of professional expertise in one or more areas
- Professional landscape architectural practice or scholarship as outlined above.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to working collaboratively across departments and in the community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters in Landscape Architecture or an accredited professional degree in landscape Architecture plus a Masters or PhD in a related field.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in professional practice through award winning work or national/international prominence in the field of landscape architecture.
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and mentorship.
- Attention to cultural diversity in teaching and/or professional practice and the proven ability to support the University's commitment to equity and diversity.
- Part-time (actual percentage of appointment determined by number of assigned courses/studios and credit load)
- One or two semester teaching appointment at the level of Adjunct Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, dependent on qualifications.
This appointment is specifically for Fall 2025 and spring 2026.
Reports ToHead, Department of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design.
Pay and BenefitsPay Range: $6,000 - $14,510; depending on a number of factors including: credits taught, academic discipline, education, qualifications, and experience.
