St. Catherine University invites applications for a .67 FTE, grant‑funded Guiding Spiritual Practices Teacher position, with an end date of December 19, 2026.
The Guiding Spiritual Practices Teacher articulates, embodies, and implements the overall spiritual vision at the heart of our partnership for contemplative discipleship. A trained spiritual practitioner, the guiding teacher is the central teacher in our partnership, responsible for implementing, maintaining, sharing, and revising our spiritual practices curricula.
Responsibilities- Serve as the “teacher of teachers,” guiding spiritual practices instructors in implementing the grant’s vision.
- Provide feedback and support to teachers to adapt practices to the needs of specific congregations.
- Collaborate closely with the grant director in implementing the vision of the partnership for contemplative discipleship.
- Participate in monthly supervisory meetings with the grant director and provide feedback on grant activities and progress.
- Gather feedback from teachers and pastors regarding the effectiveness of spiritual practices in congregations.
- Provide insights and data to the grant director for annual reports to the Lilly Endowment.
- Support congregations as requested in discerning their needs for contemplative spiritual practices.
- Help pastors understand the grant’s approach to spiritual practices and implement it within their congregations.
- Fourteen (14) paid holidays and paid “gift” days when the University is closed.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Theology and/or Spirituality.
- History of teaching spiritual practices.
- Graduate Spiritual Direction Certificate or equivalent.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to work with a wide diversity of groups and persons.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching contemplative spiritual practices in the context of the first five years of the St. Catherine University Thriving Congregations Grant.
- Experience with inter‑spiritual or inter‑religious practices and a personal commitment to religious pluralism.
- Experience with revising already existing spiritual practices curricula.

Compensation:
Hourly rate is $22.46–$31.44 depending on qualifications and experience. The salary range listed reflects a good‑faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. St. Catherine reserves the right to modify or adjust compensation depending on University needs.
