About the Job
The Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) Department at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota (Minnesota Carlson), seeks applicants to fill one full-time Professional and Administrative (P&A) Instructor position starting in Fall 2026.
This individual will start off teaching courses in Ethics & Sustainability and Business Communication. Potential additional courses to be added in the following year are Fundamentals in Management and Strategic Management. A full-time P&A Instructor covers courses accounting for 24 credits annually.
Successful applicants will be able to teach at both the undergraduate (e.g., BA) and graduate (e.g., MBA) student levels. They should also be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching at both levels, preferably through reference to past teaching experience at the University of Minnesota or another university. They need not be active researchers in related areas, but such research interest is welcome.
They should be able to work with a teaching team to develop curriculum and materials that are consistent across different course sections. They should be willing and able to advise students on all course issues outside of course instruction time during office hours.
The successful applicant will have a terminal degree in Policy, Operations, Strategic Management or related field (e.g., Law) along with significant teaching experience. Additionally, preferred candidates will have relevant business industry and communications experience. See below for required documents to be included in the application submission.

QualificationsThis P&A teaching position is an annual appointment, renewable based on performance, SME Departmental needs, and budget priorities. The successful applicant will be appointed at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level depending on the qualifications and experience described in this advertisement:
Required qualifications:
Lecturer
- Terminal degree (e.g., PhD) or master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MA, MFA) in a relevant field, plus at least five years related industry and/or academic experience.
Required qualifications:
Senior Lecturer
- Terminal degree in a relevant field plus at least 10 years related industry and or academic experience, or master’s degree plus at least 15 years related industry and or academic experience.
Additional preferred qualifications:
Lecturer and Senior Lecturer
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, preferably through reference to past teaching experience at the University of Minnesota or another university;
- Demonstrated ability to offer undergraduate and graduate courses in courses associated with this posting
- Demonstrated interest in related research;
- Demonstrated intellectual interest and willingness to participate in SME Departmental activities.

About the DepartmentThe SME Department consists of 18 tenured and tenure-track faculty, eight full-time P&A instructors, several adjunct instructors, and more than a dozen PhD students.
