Summary The Early Childhood Parent Educator for the ECFE program will teach classes to parents of children ages birth to five in our Gladstone and Beaver Lake Centers. The Parent Educator will provide high quality parent education through delivery of evidence‑based research on parenting. The parent educator supports families, colleagues, and community partners with experiences and information designed to promote healthy parent/child interaction and family development.
Required Qualifications
- Current Minnesota Parent Education licensure in ECFE
- Knowledge of parent education, adult learning and Parent Education Framework
- Experience working with diverse populations. Demonstrate ability to be culturally and linguistically responsive.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, district personnel and families
- Good organizational skills
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Smart board programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Dual licensure in Parent Education and Early Childhood/ECFE
- Bi‑lingual
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate parent education classes using Parent Education Framework. Use technology to enhance instruction and incorporate different learning methodologies for all learning styles.
- Collaborate with other staff on curriculum which includes research‑based information and best practices for Early Childhood Family Education classes.
- Create a climate of trust and safety which includes the importance of confidentiality.
- Act as a positive role model and reinforce positive parenting skills.
- Provide referral and resource information to assist families and connect them with appropriate agencies.
- Create an environment of teamwork, share resources and collaborate to build community within the classroom, program and in the larger community.
- Assist in the identification of learning disabilities/delays, health and other concerns for children on a regular basis. Follow district procedures for identifying children with special needs
- Demonstrate flexibility to teach classes during the day, as well as evenings and Saturdays as needed. Attend staff and/or team meetings, as well as in-service training. Participate in program development, evaluation and outreach as requested. Participate in departmental, advisory council and district committees as requested.
- Work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues, support staff and parents. Coordinate and collaborate with others, including sharing facilities and equipment.
- Keep abreast of best practice and current trends in the ECFE field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
