Overview
Middle School Science Teacher at HMONG COLLEGE PREP ACADEMY. The position is onsite with a starting salary of $43,800 - $74,520+, plus a sign-on stipend of $2,000 prorated based on start date. Reports to the Director of Teaching & Learning.
HCPA is a Title I Charter School that serves students through a school-wide plan for instruction focused on the needs of at-risk students.
Position SummaryThe Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for instructing middle school students in grades 6-8 and creating a flexible classroom environment that supports learning and personal growth. Instruct students in courses of study such as reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science, and develop a well-rounded instructional program to motivate students and build a solid foundation for further education.
Responsibilities- Provide instruction in core curriculum areas; use instructional resources and technologies effectively.
- Align with Minnesota Graduation and Common Core Standards; implement goals/objectives of the District and school.
- Evaluate student performance; maintain records and generate reports as prescribed; promote student achievement.
- Maintain classroom management and enforce conduct rules; administer appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Provide differentiated instructional methods to ensure student mastery of content.
- Use data from screening, diagnostics, progress monitoring, and daily work to adjust instruction and feedback.
- Foster a welcoming, respectful, and academically challenging learning environment.
- Maintain records (attendance, grades, assessments, lesson plans) via Schoology and/or Power School; ensure online class resources are current.
- Engage with families via calls, emails, conferences, and school events to build trust and support student development.
- Participate in professional development; implement new learning in the classroom; collaborate with teacher leaders and the director of teaching and learning.
- Utilize student achievement data to address strengths/weaknesses and guide instructional decisions; pursue ongoing professional growth.
- Supervise student activities as assigned (bus duty, breakfast/lunch supervision, etc.).
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Adhere to MN Teachers Code of Conduct; support school goals and culture of excellence, teamwork, and collaboration.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, teachers, and staff; respond promptly to needs.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting.
Volunteer activities are required outside the traditional school day. Activities may include open houses, dances, prom, concerts, etc. Required activities include Grade Level Parent Meetings, Fall/Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences, and HCPA Graduation. Other committees are encouraged.
Requirements & QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Current MN teaching license in elementary education for grades K-8.
- BA or MA in Teaching Licensure or related degree, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of teaching experience; strong classroom presentation and management skills.
- Knowledge of instructional technologies; knowledge of current research and trends in teaching and learning.
- Ability to utilize computer/multimedia technology as appropriate.
- Strong core curriculum knowledge; preference for candidates trained in LETRS or with structured literacy training based on the science of reading.
- Ability to adapt instructional routines to diverse student populations; ability to plan lessons aligned with district/school goals.
- Ability to evaluate student performance and communicate evaluations effectively; commitment to professional growth.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task.
- Ability to stay calm in emergencies and stressful situations; exercise initiative and sound judgment.
- Experience with diverse ethnic backgrounds in urban settings.
