OVERVIEW

The Physics Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in experimental physics to start fall semester 2026. The successful candidate will have strong experimental skills that broaden or complement existing departmental research areas, a genuine interest in teaching and developing upper-level laboratories, and a robust plan to involve undergraduate students in their hands-on research mas.

Research support will include start-up funds and laboratory space in the Physics department facility. This full-time position (9 month) involves a blend of teaching, professional engagement, service, and an expectation to engage undergraduate students in their research. The teaching load is 6 (4-credit) courses per year at the undergraduate level, which typically includes Introductory Physics and upper-level Physics courses and labs.

Enthusiasm and aptitude for teaching undergraduate students is essential.

ABOUT THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

The Physics Department serves undergraduate students in courses that fulfill core requirements for all majors, allied requirements for the sciences and engineering, and courses for the B.S., B.A., and minor in Physics. The department graduates approximately 10 majors and 20 minors per year. Our faculty members give students a high degree of personal attention to foster a nurturing, yet rigorous, educational atmosphere that is conducive to enjoyable and meaningful learning.

The salary range is for this position is $70,000-$77,000.

The University of St. Thomas has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

QUALIFICATIONS

We seek applicants who have a Ph.D. (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) in Physics or related fields, or alternatively, ABD nearing completion of the Ph.D. will also be considered.
