About The Position

Irondale High School is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and student-centered Pole Vault Coach to work with both our boys and girls track & field programs. We are looking for a coach who is passionate about athlete development, safety, and building a positive team culture. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge of pole vaulting, effective communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with the head coach and coaching staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized coaching to boys and girls pole vaulters from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Teach proper technique, progressions, and safety protocols.
  • Develop and implement structured practice plans aligned with program goals.
  • Assist in meet preparation, warm-ups, event entries, and competition day management.
  • Maintain equipment, ensure safe practice environments, and follow all district and MSHSL rules (or your state association).
  • Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and the track & field coaching staff.
  • Promote a culture of hard work, positivity, improvement, and inclusivity.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Previous experience in pole vaulting—either as a coach or athlete.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school students.
  • Strong understanding of pole vault safety and technique.

Preferred:

  • Prior coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Valid coaching certifications (NFHS, USATF Level 1, or willingness to obtain).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
Schedule
  • After-school practices during the spring season (March–June).
  • Attendance at weekday and weekend meets as scheduled.
