What You'll Do
The Library Senior Information Assistant will engage the community by providing exceptional customer service while assisting the public in the use of the Library. This includes managing customer accounts, retrieving library materials, checking items in and out, offering assistance and instruction on equipment and technology and managing workflow to accomplish duties in an efficient and responsive manner. This position requires regular evening and weekend shifts and involves a significant amount of physical activity.
The Library Senior Information Assistant works under the supervision of a Circulation Services Supervisor and Branch Manager.
This position may include day, evening and weekend hours.
There is currently 1 part-time (.5) opening at the Burnhaven Library and 1 part-time (.5) opening at the Pleasant Hill Library. This list of eligible candidates may be used to fill current and future Senior Information Assistant openings for a period of up to 3 months.

Qualifications- High school diploma or G.E.D,
and - One year experience working in a customer service environment,
and - Experience with information technologies such as computers, Internet searching, and personal devices.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience, paid or unpaid, working with the public in a library environment
- Experience working with diverse populations and customers with limited English proficiency
- Bilingual skills, especially Spanish or Somali languages

Responsibilities- Answer questions from the public in person, over the telephone and electronically
- Explain clearly Library policies and procedures
- Assist customers in managing their Library accounts including explaining charges and collecting fees
- Create and update customer accounts
- Check in and check out library materials
- Assist customers with the use of library facilities, equipment, and technology
- Assist customers in locating materials
- Unpack and sort delivery
- Unload book return bins
- Search collection for requested materials and process accordingly
- Shelve Library materials
- Process new materials, replace barcodes and security tags on existing materials
- Assist with library displays and promoting the collection
- Order supplies
Duties 1-5 are essential functions.
- Knowledge of email, word processing programs and other software used in Library
- Knowledge of basic math
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Strong customer experience/engagement skills
- Ability to demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and initiative in accommodating customer and staff needs
