Project Summary
This intern will support the Inclusion and Community Engagement Department for the development of the project “Legendary Path makers: A salute to the foragers of the Black Arts Movement in Minnesota” in partnership with multi-disciplinary artist, Pavi Elle French. The project is a three-part short film series following the progression of pioneering Twin Cities musicians and performance artists as they share their journey of where they started to how they built a foundation for future generations.
The intern will assist in archival research, securing visual assets for film, coordinating filming locations and schedules, communicating with filmmaker, film participants and community partners as needed.
Responsibilities- Familiarity with MNHS resources and other archives
- Increased community engagement skills
- Event and program development skills
- Experience with archival research and film production
- Experience in a professional museum environment
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, or have graduated within the past 12 months at the time of application.
- Ideal candidates might be currently pursuing, or have graduated with a degree in the following areas:
History, Archival Science / Library Science, Digital Communication and Media/Multimedia, Journalism, Ethnic Studies, American Studies, African American Studies, Film Studies / Media Production, Public History and Museum Studies - Some experience doing archival research
- Experience with community engagement and public participation projects
- Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings to attend community events, meetings, programs, or for filming production.
- Excellent communication skills
- Interest in African American history and culture
- Preference given to applicants with experience working with BIPOC communities and/or other underrepresented communities
Interns are required to participate in three, in-person seminars focused on professional development, learning how cultural organizations operate, and building a network of industry professionals. At the end of the semester, interns complete a final presentation to share their work.

- Thursday, July 21 from 1:00-3:00pm
- Thursday, August 13 from 3:30-5:30pm
- Final Presentations:
Thursday, August 27 from 11:00am-1:00pm
