The Dakota County Community Development Agency is seeking a summer intern to assist with administrative tasks in the Housing Assistance department. This is a limited term position.

This internship will shadow the work of our Housing Assistance team to assist with delivery of communication and program administration of CDA rental assistance programs. This position will gain skills in database management, file processing, document imaging, and customer service.

The Dakota County CDA administers local, state and federally funded rental assistance programs that assist over 2,900 households. The largest program is the Housing Choice Voucher program. This intern will learn about rental assistance programs including the process of verifying eligibility, housing quality standards inspections, and re-certifications for continued program participation.

Perform clerical duties.
  • Complete department copying, document imaging, and mailing projects (forms, applications, contracts).
  • Use word processing features to prepare reports, policies, correspondence, memorandums, and forms.
  • Perform general clerical duties as directed.
Schedule Housing Assistance Department appointments.
  • Schedule office and inspection appointments.
  • Schedule and prepare files for briefing appointments.
  • Reschedule appointments as needed.
  • Track and report appointment no shows and cancellations.
Perform Housing Assistance department receptionist duties.
  • Greet and check in applicants and clients.
  • Inform appropriate staff and begin briefing presentation, as needed.
  • Answer incoming calls, screen, and transfer calls to the correct staff member.
  • Assist clients as to their needs with forms/applications.
  • Be polite and courteous to all clients/visitors.
Act as a positive representative of the CDA.
  • Promote a positive image of the CDA to clients.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with CDA employees, vendors and contractors working with the CDA.
  • Answer calls and emails within 24 business hours.
  • Handle calls or meetings with irate parties in a professional manner to diffuse the issue/conflict.
  • Abide by all CDA Board approved policies, policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment, executive communications, administrative procedures, and safety procedures established by the CDA.
Minimum Qualifications .
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Candidates pursuing degrees in administration, business, housing, and social work are ideal candidates for this position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
