At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and working to improve the well‑being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. This position provides para‑professional accounting work for the Central Services section of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Finance & Budget Division. Responsibilities include coordinating mini‑pool usage, processing and reconciling incoming checks, reconciling and recharging monthly mailroom invoices, sorting and delivering mail, packages and supplies daily, processing outgoing mail and packages, and creating agency purchase orders.

The incumbent must maintain Authority for Local Purchase (ALP) certification with the Department of Administration for purchasing up to $25,000 and will provide backup for other accounting functions within the Central Services team as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic accounting sufficient to reconcile differences between invoices, receipts, and purchase orders, and to compile and process records.
  • Communication and customer service skills sufficient to write, read, and speak effectively with suppliers, internal customers, co‑workers, and supervisors, including ability to explain policies and procedures to others in a clear and positive manner.
  • Data entry skills sufficient to enter text and numbers into spreadsheets, databases, computer systems, and applications to maintain accurate, up‑to‑date account information.
  • Math skills sufficient to compute totals, averages and percentages of numerical data to check or reconcile data.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a mailroom.
  • Typing speed of net 45 wpm or better and ten‑key speed above 8,000 KPH with at least 98 % accuracy (measured on a 3‑minute or longer typing test).
  • Experience with office equipment, specifically using a laminator, folding machine and paper cutter;
    Microsoft Outlook experience.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and provide solutions to accounting problems.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize workload, work independently, and meet statutory and legislative audit requirements related to the position.
  • Experience with writing procedures and reference guides.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing and walking at a fast pace for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
