The Work You'll Do

At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and improving the well‑being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. Minnesota Housing is hiring an Executive Assistant who will provide executive‑level administrative and operational support to the Assistant Commissioner/Executive Director and will coordinate the day‑to‑day operations of the Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness (MICH).

The role plays a key part in keeping interagency work moving smoothly by managing coordination, communications, and operational processes that support MICH’s mission.

Essential

Job Duties
  • Provide executive‑level administrative and operational support to MICH leadership.
  • Coordinate council operations, meetings, and interagency communications.
  • Support budget monitoring and administrative coordination in partnership with finance and contracts staff.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including the Governor’s Office and Legislature.
  • Manage records, document systems, and information flow to support effective council operations.
  • Support communications, accessibility, and information‑sharing efforts across MICH and partner agencies.
  • Represent MICH in internal coordination meetings and support cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to perform administrative support work for a work unit’s expense and budget administration.
  • Strong attention to detail in writing, preparing, and editing materials, using correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence construction.
  • Knowledge of communications sufficient to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect files.
  • Skill in analyzing, interpreting, reconciling, and preparing financial information, records, and reports; identifying errors and recommending solutions to procedural or fiscal problems.
  • Ability to document and record information sufficient to maintain electronic or paper files for efficient organization and retrieval.
  • Customer‑service skill to convey complicated information in an understandable manner as a resource for outside agencies, clients, coworkers, and customers – extensive administrative and organizational skill.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience demonstrating cultural responsiveness and working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Previous experience in state government.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with plain‑language writing and editing.
  • Experience managing contracts and/or budgets.
  • Two (2) years of executive administrative support experience.
Physical Requirements

Requires moving office items such as file folders and small office tools. A certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary.
