Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the financial stability and growth of a nonprofit organization by managing critical accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and demonstrate expertise in financial reporting and compliance.

Responsibilities:

- Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure precise and timely recording of financial transactions.

- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense reimbursements while adhering to nonprofit accounting policies.

- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, allocations, and adjustments, with accuracy.

- Conduct month-end and year-end closings, including reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.

- Support grant accounting activities by tracking restricted and unrestricted funds and preparing expenditure reports.

- Generate detailed financial reports in Quick Books for organizational leadership, auditors, and grantors.

- Collaborate with program teams to ensure expenses are coded correctly and align with the established budget.

- Assist in preparing for annual audits by gathering documentation and coordinating with external auditors.

- Maintain comprehensive and accurate financial records while ensuring adherence to nonprofit accounting standards.

- Contribute to the improvement of processes and assist in strengthening internal controls. Requirements - Proficiency in corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return processes.

- Expertise in journal entries, including preparation and adjustments.

- Strong knowledge of general ledger and general journal functionalities.

- Demonstrated experience with Quick Books for financial reporting and management.

- Familiarity with audited financial statements and nonprofit accounting practices.

- Knowledge of grant accounting, including tracking funds and preparing related reports.

- Ability to perform month-end and year-end reconciliations with precision.

- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills for maintaining compliance and accuracy.
