Senior Accountant
Position Overview
This role plays a key part in the organization’s financial operations, supporting reporting, analysis, grant compliance, budgeting, and internal controls. The Senior Accountant will work across multiple accounting functions while also providing guidance to accounting staff and contributing to process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare income statements, balance sheets, and various financial reports.
- Assist with variance analysis, forecasting, and monthly financial reviews.
Compliance & Audits
- Support accounting and grant audits by preparing schedules and documentation for external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant financial regulations.
General Accounting Operations
- Maintain and analyze the general ledger.
- Provide support for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and routine tax filings.
Grant Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare accurate financial reports, invoices, and reimbursement requests in accordance with grant requirements.
- Monitor grant activity to ensure compliance with funding terms.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Participate in the annual budget development process.
- Assist with cash flow monitoring, projections, and long-term planning.
Internal Controls
- Help implement and maintain internal financial controls to safeguard assets and reduce risk.
Team Support & Leadership
- Provide guidance to accounting staff on entries, procedures, and best practices.
- Serve as a resource for questions related to reporting and compliance.
Process Improvement
- Assist with developing and refining reconciliations.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and help implement updated processes.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting standards, and financial regulations.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5–7 years of advanced accounting experience, ideally in a supervisory or senior-level role.
- Experience with grants or federally funded programs (FQHC experience preferred).
- Highly detail‑oriented, organized, ethical, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
